20/02/2016: Declaration of Presidential Elections Results

The Electoral Commission appointed 18th February 2016 as the polling date for Presidential (and Parliamentary) Elections. The process of tallying the results of the election has been concluded and the results declared, in accordance with Article 103(7) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda (as amended) and Section 57 of the Presidential Elections Act (as amended).

The Electoral Commission congratulates all the candidates for having presented themselves to contest at this level, and for having gone through the demanding campaign period.

The Commission further congratulates the people of Uganda for turning up in large numbers and participating in the elections for the President and Members of Parliament, which have been largely successful.

The Commission appreciates the involvement of National, Regional and International Community in the observation of the elections.

The Commission is grateful to the Government of Uganda for having funded all the electoral activities as well as the support received from Development Partners.

Special thanks are extended to the following stakeholders:

  • The political parties and independent candidates
  • The voters
  • National and International observers
  • Uganda Police
  • Various government ministries, departments and agencies
  • Electoral Commission staff
  • The management and staff of Mandela National Stadium Namboole. 

Appreciation is also extended to the media for constantly keeping the public informed.
