The Electoral Commission (EC) successfully concluded its National Workshop for Stakeholders at Hotel Africana today, focusing on the Demarcation of Electoral Areas and the Re-organization of Polling Stations in preparation for the 2025/2026 General Elections. This workshop was an essential platform for educating and engaging stakeholders on these critical processes to ensure a smooth and transparent electoral process.
In his keynote address, Chairperson EC Justice Byabama welcomed all attendees and emphasized the importance of the workshop. He highlighted the EC’s constitutional mandate to ensure regular, free, and fair elections, and discussed the significance of the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap, which was launched in August 2023.
Justice Byabama underscored the need for Demarcation of Electoral Areas, which aims to define areas for Directly Elected Councillors, Women Councillors, and Councillors representing Special Interest Groups. This process, initially planned to start earlier, will now commence in August 2024 due to recent adjustments.
Additionally, the Re-organization of Polling Stations was addressed to ensure manageable voter numbers and accessibility. This exercise will include relocating polling stations affected by infrastructural developments, splitting stations with high voter numbers, and ensuring each parish and electoral area has at least one polling station.
The workshop was a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming elections, and the EC called for the support and cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a credible and inclusive electoral process. The Commission appreciates the Government of Uganda for providing the requisite funds and the unwavering support from all stakeholders.
