Statement on establishment/verification of academic qualifications with the Electoral Commission by aspirants in preparation for the 2025/2026 General Elections

The Electoral Commission wishes to draw the attention of all those who wish to stand/contest for election as President, Member of Parliament, Chairpersons of districts/cities/Lord Mayor, that they are required, by law, to have a minimum qualification of Advanced Level (A Level) standard or its equivalent.

Roadmap for Elections for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Committees from the Village to the National Level, 2025/2026 General Elections

As part of the implementation of the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap, the Electoral Commission has issued the programme for the conduct of elections of SIGs (Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, and Youth) Committees from the Parish to the National level. The Commission calls on all stakeholders to take note of the attached timelines and to participate in the respective activities following the guidelines for the elections.

Adjustment of the period for the Display of the National Voters' Register and Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

The Electoral Commission is mandated under Article 61 (1)(e) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, and Sections 18 and 20 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176) to compile, maintain, revise, and update the National Voters Register, and further display the compiled and updated register in accordance with Section 26 of the said Act.

Display of the National Voters Register for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) 25 April – 8 May 2025

In preparation for the 2020-2021 General Elections, and in accordance with Section 26 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176), the Electoral Commission has appointed the period from 25th April until 8th May 2025 for the display of the National Voters Registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

During this exercise, the Voters Registers for the following Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will be displayed:

1. The Youths;

2. Persons with Disability (PWD); and,

3. Older Persons.

Display of the National Voters Register, 25th April - 15th May 2025

In preparation for the 2025-2026 General Elections, and in accordance with Section 26 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176), the Electoral Commission has appointed the period from 25th April to 15th May 2025 for displaying the National Voters Register.

The display of the Voters Register shall begin at 8:00 am and end at 6:00 pm every day, including weekends, during the above period, at all polling stations throughout Uganda.
