Rescheduling of Polling Date for Elections in Local Government Electoral Areas Where Polling was not Conducted or Concluded: Tuesday, 17th February 2026

The Electoral Commission informs political parties, candidates, voters, and the general public that the polling date for Local Government Council Elections in electoral areas where polling was not conducted or concluded on the previously appointed dates due to unforeseen circumstances, has been rescheduled.

Accordingly, polling in the above affected electoral areas, which had been scheduled for Wednesday, 4th February 2026, will now be conducted on Tuesday, 17th February 2026.

Elections shall be conducted for the following unfilled positions at the City/District; Municipality/City Division; and Sub County/Town/Municipal Division level, as applicable:

  1. Chairpersons;
  2. Directly Elected Councillors;
  3. Women Councillors; and,
  4. Councillors representing Special Interest Groups (Youths; Older Persons; Workers and Persons with Disabilities - PWDs).

Polling shall take place at all polling stations within the affected electoral areas and, where applicable, at the venues for the respective electoral colleges, starting at 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For emphasis, Wednesday, 4th February 2026 remains the appointed polling day, in accordance with the General Elections Roadmap, for the election of Chairpersons, Directly Elected Councillors, and Women Councillors at Sub-county, Town, and Municipal Division levels.

Voting shall be by universal adult suffrage, and shall take place at all polling stations in all the Sub Counties, Town Councils and Municipal Divisions, across the country, beginning at 7:00am till 4:00pm.

Thereafter, counting of votes and declaration of results shall take place.

The Electoral Commission urges all stakeholders and voters to participate peacefully and to comply with the electoral laws and guidelines.
